DESIGN TIPS & TUTORIALS

STEP-BY-STEP

CLEAN IT
Find a clean workspace that can get a little wet. Most people use the kitchen counter or the breakfast table.
FILL IT
Fill your vase about ¾ of the way with fresh water.
TRIM IT
Use a sharp tool to trim at least a ½” from every stem at a 45° angle to help your flowers to stay hydrated.
PRUNE IT
Remove all leaves or foliage that will fall below the waterline in the vase to avoid decay and bacteria build up in the water. Clearing these extra pieces and changing the water regularly will create a hospitable environment for the flowers and help make them last longer
DESIGN IT
Time to design! Start by criss crossing the stems of your foliage around the opening of the vase to create a structure for your blooms. (Floral tape in a basket weave at the opening of the vase works as well) As you begin to fill in stems, make sure to stagger the position of each stem to make your creation look full and proportioned. Remember, how low, high or wide you go with your stems is entirely up to you. *Pro Tip: For arrangements that mimic nature, avoid using even numbers of any particular flower, create clusters of a particular flower (usually groupings of three work well), and use the largest blooms low in the arrangement and the smallest ones higher up.
FINISH IT
Shape and Finish – It’s time to fill in any holes around the arrangement. Use any left over stems to fill in or rework areas that need it. The only rule here is that there are no rules so since you’re the designer let your artistic spirit guide you until it’s exactly what you want it to be.
DISPLAY IT
Stunt! Find the perfect spot for your creation to shine! Flowers are natural mood enhancers so put it in a place where you’ll be able to enjoy them as often as possible. But remember, not too much heat or sun! You want these beauties to be around for a while…
